My cross hotbar layout for Scholar (PS3). My Scholar is currently only level 37 so these are subject to change!
Actual macros to come.
Mechanics
From top to bottom the sets are cross hotbars 1 to 5.
I refer to Set 1 as "Defend", Set 2 as "Attack", Set 3 as "Command", Set 4 as "Item", and Set 5 as "Passive". These 5 sets are not shared and change per class/job.
For Scholar, I disable the default pet cross hotbar set.
Depending on which set is currently active, the "Auto-attack" macro, which is found in the same slot on every set, will swap to a different set as well as execute other various commands. This means that I have multiple versions of the Auto-attack macro that all share the same macro icon.
For Scholar, my Auto-attack macros do the following:
Set 1 (Defend): battlemode on, swap to Set 2 (Attack), targets nearest enemy Set 2 (Attack): battlemode on, swap to Set 1 (Defend) Set 3 (Command): battlemode on, swap to Set 1 (Defend) Set 4 (Item): battlemode on, swap to Set 1 (Defend) Set 5 (Passive): battlemode on, swap to Set 1 (Defend)
For Scholar, my "Rouse" macro swaps to Set 3 (Command) on all cross hotbar sets while the "Sustain" macro, which is found only in Set 3 (Command), swaps to Set 1 (Defend).
In my general settings, I have it so that I automatically sheathe my weapon (battlemode off) when not actively engaged in battle. Along with this I have sets 1 to 4 set to be inactive/hidden when my weapon is sheathed. What this does is, when a battle is over, my active cross hotbar automatically swaps to Set 5 (Passive). Main perk here for me is to be able to reach my Sprint macro quickly after a battle without having to even think about manually swapping sets.
Theory
The idea behind my cross hotbar layout and macros is to have the essential abilities, spells, etc. present on all of the cross hotbar sets so that I can quickly and easily execute them from any set that I am on. This greatly decreases the amount of fumbling it takes to find that specific ability, spell, etc. that you want to execute.
So, saying this, you will notice that many of my cross hotbar sets look very similar to each other with only a few slots actually changing.
Being that I mainly player Healer classes/jobs, I have healing and essential support spells and abilities present on all sets.
Is it me or you're not using embrace at all? The fairy cure, w/e it's called. I have to spam it in WP speed runs, cuz I'm not exactly leet geared yet, hehe.
